Extract from the live performance by London-based multi-percussionist Beibei Wang . Beibei was invited by Lisa to design a performance in response to the concept of HZ-0. She interacted with the sensory device by not only using instruments but also by changing light, humidity and other atmospheric conditions in the room.
This performance was originally hosted on the 3rd of Dec 2022, at Enclave Projects in London.
Harmony Zero
2021-22
Inspired by the notion of emptiness in Eastern philosophy and modern physics, the installation HZ-0 examines our interdependent relations with the environment using computer programming and acoustic mapping.
Centred in the room is a cluster of sensors wired in a transparent shell, 3D printed from a chunk of clay moulded by the artist —representing the space between her hands. It collects various types of data from the void around it, elements that cannot be captured by eyes, for instance, CO2, TVOC, PM25, PM10, LUX, dB, Temp, and Pa. The device then transforms those live data into soundscapes through algorithms.
